Biography
Sophie was born on 30th December 1964 at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital,
London. Her parents, Simon and Alexandra Ward, had met at drama school
and fallen in love during the Cuban missile crisis. Sophie grew up
with two younger sisters and went to school in North London, studying
at the Anna Scher Theatre twice a week. At 10 she got her first professional
role, in Thames Television’s production of J.B.Priestley’s ‘The Other
Window’. For the next 5 years, she got out of all school sports, especially
hockey, by attending Merle Park’s ballet school, but was finally fired
for being too tall.
Through the auspices of Models One, Sophie worked as a model for a few years while trying to take ‘O' and ‘A' levels. She worked in New York and Milan and then got a job in Steven Spielberg's ‘Young Sherlock Holmes' playing Sherlock Holmes's first love. In 1986 she was cast in the film ‘Aria' which was seen by Franco Zeffirelli, who put her in his film ‘The Young Toscanini' with Elizabeth Taylor. The following year, Sophie got married and in 1989, she had her first child, Nathaniel.
They travelled together while Sophie filmed and when she was 27; Sophie
had another son, Joshua. Her most productive professional relationship
has been with the Glasgow Citizen’s Theatre and Philip Prowse, with
whom she worked every year from 1994 to 2003.
In 1996, Sophie fell in love with Rena Brannan on Santa Monica Boulevard.
Rena agreed to sell her pick-up truck and move to England and now
she lives in Gloucestershire with Sophie and the boys and a hot water
bottle.
This year, Sophie has been busy filming
Clive Barker's The Book of Blood, whilst also studying with
The National Academy of Writing. |
